Introduction
Dr Ejike Celestine Onyeador is the fifth out of the six children of Mazi and Madam Nicholas and Bridget Onyeador of Amuvi Village, Arochukwu, Nigeria. He attended WTC Practising School, Enugu for his primary education and at St Theresa’s Secondary School, Nsukka for his secondary education. Thereafter, he had his medical training at College of Medicine, University of Ilorin and graduated with an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) degree in 1983; he had the best students’ award in Community Medicine. His internship was in the same hospital and thereafter he proceeded to the USA. Whilst there he got a job as a Pathology Assistant at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Redwood City, California where he worked from 1984 to 1986.
Residency
He started his Pediatric Residency in 1986 at the College of Physicians and Surgeons located in the Harlem Hospital Center in New York City, and he completed it in 1989. He was certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in 1990 and thereafter have been recertified on a number of occasions by the Board (2004, 2007, and 2014).
Pediatric Practice
His first Pediatric practice, Health Foundations Medical Group, Inc. was established in Long Beach, California in 1990 and by God’s grace, the practice is performing well. His second practice under the same umbrella organization was set up in 1996 and is also doing well. In his medical profession, he enjoys the company of children both as in-patients and out-patients. He sees in-patient children in the hospitals that he is affiliated to in Long Beach, namely St. Mary’s Medical Centre, Memorial Medical Centre and Community Medical Centre. The children seen on an out-patient basis are looked after at the two practices of “Health Foundations Medical Group, Inc.”
Other Activities and Awards
He became a board member of Karing Physicians Medical Group, IPA, in Long Beach, California in 1996 and continues to be one to the present day. He was Chairperson of the Pediatrics Department at St Mary’s Medical Centre, Long Beach, California from 2002 to 2006, and became the Medical Director of the Healthy Foundations Medical Group in 2014. In 2002 he was awarded “The Engineer That Did Service Award” by the Healthy Kids Clinic for the service he provided for uninsured children, and he also received the “Assemblyman and Lowenthal Commendation” for completing community service in Long Beach.
Fellowship and Memberships
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) and a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), National Medical Association (NMA), California Medical Association (CMA), Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) and Long Beach Medical Association (LBMA).
Organizations supported
He has always had a passion for helping the under-privileged. Professionally, he ran a free clinic for uninsured children whose parents could not afford treatment at the Healthy Kids Coalition Clinic in Long Beach California. By the grace of God only, he was able to sponsor part of the project in Arochukwu, Nigeria, run by the Carmelite order.
Immediate Family
God has blessed him with a very godly and caring wife, Dr. Linda Onyeador (nee Ubani) and also five lovely children. He has also provided Linda with her own Dental Practice – Linda C Onyeador DDS Inc. The children are doing very well by His Grace. He is grateful to God for His blessings upon his life. He believe that his family has been his rock throughout the years.
